Kill Pixie Studio Visit - Thanks to Fecal Face SF

On a recent trip down to Los Angeles we swung through Kill Pixie's studio. This Australia (now living in LA) street artist creates dizzying precious works and installations. Well known for his street work back down under, Kill Pixie has been featured in Fecal Face shows and White Walls group and solo shows and was recently voted Sydney's current Best Visual Artist. He's currently represented by Merry Karnowsky Gallery in LA and has shown in their Berlin space as well. We recently created a giclee print Super Systems with him and have always been a fan of whatever he's doing.

He is currently showing at EDWINA CORLETTE GALLERY in Brisbane, Australia as part of a three person show Vexta, Kill Pixie & Ari Athans which runs till Mar 28th. He's also opening a solo show at Merry Karnowsky May 30th in LA.

On an unassuming Los Angeles street.

My camera jumps around Kill Pixie's space... Love these era buildings.

Yes, he flutters in flux...

The man himself... Recently showing his face.

Georg Jensen x Brooks Saddles x Sögreni Wheels Bicycle

georgjensen_bike.jpg

It makes sense that Georg Jensen reached out to Sögreni (both are Denmark-based). The bicycle is basically a Sögreni Classic with a customized, hand-hammered finish and hand-made sterling silver bell and features a Classic saddle and handles by Brooks. Each partner brings their unique skills to the table in this perfect collaboration.

At last count only a few of the 14 are still available (despite the $5,000 price tag.) Though Georg Jensen has stores all over, only a few select stores in the U.S., Taiwan, Australia and Denmark carry the bicycle.

Sögreni's other concepts are really rad. Their Wooden bike is, well, made of wood. And the Mountaingoat looks like it belongs in the new "Where The Wild Things Are" movie.

Dalek + Mike Giant @ The Magda Danysz gallery

april 25th - may 23rd, 2009
opening on saturday april 25th, 2009 from 6 to 9 PM

The Magda Danysz gallery is pleased to welcome two major artists from the street art culture who have developed a style of their own : Dalek and Mike Giant. Though they have very different styles they talk about the same culture, the same influences, the same world.

Dalek is one of the artists who as Shepard Fairey, Dave Kinsey, and Twist (aka Barry McGee) is taking the old school styles of graffiti and while exposing the work to whole new audiences at the same time. see Dalek's work

Mike Giant has added the whole tattoo culture to his graffiti background. He started writing in 1989. Early on, he was influenced by his graffiti partners a lot, as well as by writers like Twist, Rem, and KR. A habit he has kept from his graffiti years as now, Mike Giant uses words as the building blocks of language. see Mike Giant's work

Ed Harcourt's new EP- Russian Roulette

http://sneakattackmedia.com/sneakdownloads/Ed_Harcourt/Russian_Roulette/edpiano_PRESS.jpg

The six tracks found on UK songwriter Ed Harcourt's new EP, Russian Roulette, are as personal as they come. Each song recounts the many emotions and thoughts he's experienced, embracing both the high and low times one endures. The track "Caterpillar" points to a particularly intense and emotional moment in Harcourt’s life when earlier this year, his newborn daughter Roxy had been placed in an incubator, deeply worrying both Harcourt and his wife as they sat idle, waiting for their Roxy to recover.

GoPro Hero Wide Sports Camera: Lightning Review on Gizmodo!

The Gadget:A small waterproof sports camera with mounts for handlebars, helmets, chests, surfboards, snowboards/skis, cars — almost anything. This cam has a 170-degree wide-angle lens. And it's cheap and amazing.

Thanks to Gizmodo!!!-

The Price: $US200

The Verdict:This is the best sports cam I've ever used. The various mounts allow it to be strapped to a helmet, a chest, a rollbar in a car, or on the glass or metal of an auto's flat surfaces via suction cup. There's a plug mount and 3M mount for surfboards, or a 3M mount for ski/snowboards. There are even bicycle mounts for facing rear and forward. And I could see the chest mount being applicable to almost any sport, from martial arts, to kayaking, to hockey. (The mounts are sold separately.) It's cheap enough you shouldn't worry about it too much either, at $US200. Although I did still worry about it a little bit: The mounts worked, but I've popped the 3M mount off a snowboard on a hard day of riding, and since then have depended on the large suction cup and a tether for safety.

It's housed in a tough plastic case, that locks tight, which makes it waterproof enough to submerge it 30 metres. The camera takes SD cards, and between the 2xAAA battery life and 2GB of storage, you end up with about 1 hour of footage and life in the cold. Buy rechargeable batteries. (The camera is noted to have shorter battery life in colder weather and using lithium or NiMH you can get 2-3 hours in regular climates.) Video quality comes in at 512x384, and works well on cloudy days, but in bright environments it shines. The Hero also has a 5MP still mode which can record stills continuously at 2 or 5 second intervals. (I've included some samples in the gallery.)

The f/2.8 lens has 170-degree field of vision which allows for not only better light sensitivity, but the full context of whatever maneuvers you're pulling, and reduced jitter from vibrations. But it also has the effect of reducing the visual impact of what you're doing. A small jump will look small. Don't take this the wrong way — I prefer this wide angle lens to the alternative, which is having a zoomed-in, shakey cam shot. One other gripe I have is that the camera's group delete icon looks like the multiple still shot mode icon. I deleted a batch of great videos one day, by accident. I swear, I jumped over a house that day. Really.

Check out this video from a pro surfer, or any of the company's samples.

Unkle, Heaven - Directed by Spike Jonze

New UNKLE video directed by Spike Jonze. Same director as the new 'Where the wild things are'.

This clip introduces a really simple relaxing skate vibe... and then Spike just blows the hell out of the whole skate park! It is shot brilliantly with great colours and is beautifully directed. The great use of focal points really made the clip as good as it is!!

Brisbane Bike Polo!!! Night Game!

Bikes Bikes Bikes and a little more bikes... with a splash of polo!
Thursday night was my first night game of Polo in Brisbane. With the battle of late arrivals, under-mallets, and the determination of carpark security guards, the night actually went along very smoothly.... which I think isn't that hard with a good crew of players. The night sky cleared and the Brisbane city shone bright in our eyes as the game hit off on top of a Valley Carpark.
It was a great turn out and a fun night with everyone in good spirits.

The are some of the photos taken...

Thanks all!

BO Gear (Brisbane Outdoor Gear!!!)

In my first introduction to the Brisbane Bike Polo scene I was fortunate to meet a group of really great down-to-earth people. Ranging from students to messengers to doctors to designers to shop owners but one thing we all have in common is bikes and polo.
Brisbane is a small and thriving city but, more often then not, will get over-looked. Many great things have come out of Brisbane and I have always liked to support our own crop. With duo An Horse taking over North America and Anthony Lister, Nick Plowman and Shaun O'Connor amongst a long list of artists and designers traveling afar, Brisbane is definitely on the map.

Dave Bell is the next name to watch out for and his brand Brisbane Outdoor Gear (aka BOgear).
He is known around town as 'Ranga' thanks to his flaming red locks and with a smile a mile wide, this happy-go-lucky dude is hard to miss. He is a great rider, polo player, big supporter of local communities and a lover of the environment.

Brisbane Outdoor Gear designs and manufactures custom products for use in the outdoors. Dave started BOgear late in 2008 and have spent the majority of the time to date developing three messenger bags. Two designs are ready for market at the moment; a small one -papermunky - (Picture) and a large one -elephantitus - .

Papermunky by Brisbane Outdoor Gear.

Messenger bags are just the start of where Brisbane Outdoor Gear is heading; In the future designs will include commuter specific bags, bicycle touring gear (including tents), and then on to hiking and adventure bags/tents/gear.
The business itself focuses on three things; Hard-wearing gear, local communities, and the environment. But above all, it's all about fun and having fun doing it.

Daves' bags are used of all recycled materials including the use of old billboard posters as a protective lining. What more could you ask for! Plus they retail for a hell of a lot cheaper then our more well-known names.
Erik at Gear Brisbane in West End is the first to stock BOgear. So head on down and check them out. You wont be disappointed!

BOgear-
"We want our gear to last so long it almost has a life of its own; we want it to be associated with your memories of intense outdoor experiences. And when the gear can no longer possibly have a life we want it back. We'll evaluate it, repair it if we can or failing that, use parts of it into a new product. If we can repair it, we'll donate it to a charity that needs the product, such as a disaster relief appeal, or for the homeless in our local communities.

We aim to be as environmentally friendly as possible. We are not perfect, but we damn well try to be! This means sourcing better materials for the environment, being more economical with our patterns, reducing, reusing, and recycling.

This dirtification guarantee covers everything of ours. You crash into a car during an alley cat and your bag gets cut up worse than a Chucky victim, we’ll replace it. If the stitching fails because you decide it would be funny to carry acid home from the pool shop, we’ll replace it. And if the buckles fail because your dog has a thing for black plastic, that too we’ll replace."

Check out BOgear blog for all the latest news here...

Sounds pretty good to me!!! .....
